Sizzling Summer Nights at Autry National Center
Since I was a college freshman, my favorite Thursday night hangout in Los Angeles has been the Autry National Center in Griffith Park. Now a college graduate, I still bring my friends and family to this summer event offering music by the best salsa bands in LA, food and fun!
I’m happy that I was able to attend this past week as Orquesta Son Mayor brought the plaza to life and got the crowd out of their seats and moving. I always try my best to not to miss the event and I recommend that everyone should try it out some time.
Sizzling Summer Nights is a live visual of the melting pot that Los Angeles is. People from different backgrounds flock to the Autry National Center to dance the night away with fellow salsa music lovers. They are open to dancing with everyone including strangers. This is a normal tradition; so don’t be shocked if a stranger asks to dance with you. If you are nervous and convinced that you’re a horrible dancer, do not fear! Trish Connery provides dance lessons around 7:30pm during intermission.
The annual event takes place every Thursday night throughout the months of July and August. Admission is $7/person. Food and beverages are available at the plaza and in the cafeteria.
If you stop by, be sure to bring a coat as the night sends a crisp breeze through the plaza. If you plan to dance all night, there’s no need to bring one.
